Cooperativa Frontera was founded in 1976 in response to the demand of farmers to market the harvested fruit. It is located in Frontera, a small town Northwest of the island of El Hierro, in the Canary Islands, which has a privileged climate, the frequent trade winds favouring an average annual temperature of 21°C, the land of volcanic origin and rich nutrients being very grateful for the exploitation of any subtropical crop.

Today, this cooperative has more than 450 members who deliver their fresh crops for distribution and sale. These crops are subtropical fruit: banana, pineapple, mango, papaya, avocado, reinette apples, watermelons, peaches, melons, starfruit and pitayas. Furthermore, some vegetables are also delivered among other farm products.

Through its winery, the Cooperative handles the grape harvest, processing and marketing of the Viña Frontera wine with designation of origin Vinos de El Hierro. These are wines with the character and personality of the people of these latitudes.

It also has other facilities such as an agricultural and livestock warehouse, a supermarket and a transport company, which operates between El Hierro and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where it has another venue, in addition to that between Las Palmas and El Hierro.

Our company has won numerous awards: among the most prominent is the recognition of the 2003 Canary Islands Gold Medal, awarded by the Government of the Canary Islands. In addition, it was honoured as one of the best Spanish companies in 1999 by Dun & Bradstreet España S.A., Prestige Ratting Book Edition 2000.  Likewise, the winery has received several awards as recognition of Leading Wineries in Spain by the Academy of Wine and Gastronomy of Madrid in 1998, and the winery was awarded the Eleventh International Food & Beverage Trophy by Editorial Office in Barcelona in 1992.

Since its inception, COOPERATIVA FRONTERA is a member of the Second-Degree cooperative of COPLACA, Regional Group of Cooperatives of the Canary Islands, which was created to combine agricultural production and bring them closer to consumers, adapting marketing and promoting the expansion of the mainland market. The Eurobanan Group, with nine distribution centres throughout the Iberian Peninsula, Balearic and Canary Islands, provides all kinds services for the comprehensive marketing and distribution of fresh horticultural products throughout Spain and Portugal. The Group was created between the Eurobanan Canarias Association, a joint venture of COPLACA and Fyffes, and the company Ángel Rey S.A. in Madrid.
